El Mar Drive
There has been a proposal to reduce the lanes on El
Mar Drive from two lanes to one lane. This proposal
has been disguised as a way to beautify the street.
Unfortunately, the real reason is that developers along
the street would prefer to create the illusion of their
buildings to be further away from the street than they
actually are. Most of our residents are STRONGLY opposed
to this plan, as am I.
I do agree that we do need to improve El Mar Drive,
but we can do this without choking the street down to
one lane. Let's put the electrical lines underground.
This will improve the appearance, and protect us from
lengthy outages during hurricane season. The water drainage
system will also be improved to handle excessive rain
and puddling. Finally, rebuild the sidewalks to ensure
the safety of our pedestrians.
We do not have to alter our town simply to coddle to
the desires of corporations and their profit projections.
Finding better ways to do things that are beneficial
to our community by listening to the residents themselves,
is central to my ideals of a responsible mayor.

Commercial Pavilion
A beautiful new pavilion is to be built at the end
of Commercial Boulevard. According to our Grant Agreement,
we must have this pavilion completed before the end
of 2008. Currently, we do not even have our plans
approved, and I'm concerned that we are risking the
loss of our grant money, due to the extremely slow
pace of progress our local government is moving on
this issue. I do not see the need to unnecessarily
delay projects such as this one, that will only improve
and beautify our community. As mayor, I will ensure
this project is completed on time.
